Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about MLD.

During an MLD session you'll experience light, rhythmic strokes focused on lymph pathways. Treatments are gentle and relaxing; clothing remains light. Sessions typically last 45 to 60 minutes and your therapist will customize pressure and areas based on your needs.

MLD is often safe and effective for post-surgical swelling and lymphedema when performed by trained therapists. We require medical clearance for recent surgeries or active infections. Our Paramus therapists follow protocols and tailor treatments to each recovery stage.

Results vary by condition; some clients notice reduction after one treatment, while others require a series. We commonly recommend an initial plan of six to ten sessions for chronic issues, then maintenance visits. Your therapist will propose a personalized schedule.

Most clients feel relaxed and experience no adverse effects. Mild side effects can include temporary increased urination, slight fatigue, or minimal discomfort as fluid shifts. Serious symptoms are rare; contact us or your physician if you experience fever, severe pain, or sudden swelling.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing and avoid heavy lotions or oils before your appointment. Hydrate well and bring relevant medical history or compression garments. Arrive a few minutes early so your therapist can review health concerns and tailor the session.

MLD can be an effective component of long-term management for chronic inflammation and fluid buildup. Combined with exercise, compression, nutrition, and medical care, regular sessions reduce symptoms and improve function. We create ongoing plans and coordinate with your healthcare team.
